چکیده

A number-conserving cellular automaton (NCCA) is a cellular automaton whose states are integers and whose transition function keeps the sum of all cells constant throughout its evolution. It can be seen as a kind of modeling of the physical conservation laws of mass or energy. In this paper we show a construction method of radius 1/2 NCCAs. The local transition function is expressed via a single unary function which can be regarded as ‘flows’ of numbers. In spite of the strong constraint, we constructed radius 1/2 NCCAs that simulate any radius 1/2 cellular automata or any radius 1 NCCA. We also consider the state complexity of these non-splitting simulations (4n + 2n + 1 and 8n + 12n − 16, respectively). These results also imply existence of an intrinsically universal radius 1/2 NCCA.

Universality of One-Dimensional Reversible and Number-Conserving Cellular Automata

We study one-dimensional reversible and number-conserving cellular automata (RNCCA) that have both properties of reversibility and number-conservation. In the case of 2-neighbor RNCCA, Garcı́aRamos proved that every RNCCA shows trivial behavior in the sense that all the signals in the RNCCA do not interact each other. However, if we increase the neighborhood size, we can find many complex RNCCAs...

Universality and decidability of number-conserving cellular automata

Number-conserving cellular automata (NCCA) are particularly interesting, both because of their natural appearance as models of real systems, and because of the strong restrictions that number-conservation implies. Here we extend the definition of the property to include cellular automata with any set of states in Z, and show that they can be always extended to “usual” NCCA with contiguous state...

Number-Conserving Reversible Cellular Automata and Their Computation-Universality

We introduce a new model of cellular automaton called a one-dimensional number-conserving partitioned cellular automaton (NC-PCA). An NC-PCA is a system such that a state of a cell is represented by a triple of non-negative integers, and the total (i.e., sum) of integers over the connguration is conserved throughout its evolving (computing) process. It can be thought as a kind of modelization o...

Stochastic Cellular Automata: Correlations, Decidability and Simulations

This paper introduces a simple formalism for dealing with deterministic, nondeterministic and stochastic cellular automata in an unified and composable manner. This formalism allows for local probabilistic correlations, a feature which is not present in usual definitions. We show that this feature allows for strictly more behaviors (for instance, number conserving stochastic cellular automata r...

Simulations between triangular and hexagonal number-conserving cellular automata

A number-conserving cellular automaton is a cellular automaton whose states are integers and whose transition function keeps the sum of all cells constant throughout its evolution. It can be seen as a kind of modelization of the physical conservation laws of mass or energy. In this paper, we first propose a necessary condition for triangular and hexagonal cellular automata to be number-conservi...
